Related Research Material for Silkeborg Museum

The purpose of these images is to give a background of where Utzon's concept for the Silkeborg Museum has originated from which is basically from cave temples. Jeremy gave me suggestions to post these images as proof of research beyond the Silkeborg Museum and Jorn Utzon.

Ellora Caves, Aurangabad, Maharastra, India (along the Deccan Odyssey Train Journey in HSC India Trip, Goa to Mumbai)- As we can see, we see that these kind of caves have been carved out of stone which makes it more like a unique cave temple. The caves look like pieces of architecture which have a mixture of interior and exterior spaces. This cave temple has background of Jorn's idea of the museum however doesn't relate to the concept for Jorn Utzon's Silkeborg Museum.

Ajanta Caves, Maharastra, India (along the Deccan Odyssey Train Journey in HSC India Trip, Goa to Mumbai)-These kind of caves are set in a valley looking shape. This has a similar approach however, we see that they're all interior spaces with views of the valley. This cave temple is similar to Jorn Utzon's conept for the Silkeborg Museum compared to Ellora caves because they look as though the cave temple has been buried and embedded on a rocky cliff.

I thought I'll come up with my preferred words I can use to act as the basis for my assignment render:

Earthy- deals with the nature of cave temples

Artistic- deals with the aesthetics of the art gallery

Romantic- deals with the architectural style from one of Jorn Utzon's buildings, the Sydney Opera House

Now comes the nuts and bolts, howvever more work to do

I finally found information on Richard Weston's book on Jorn Utzon.

All I need to do now is model the whole building and work on all of the main concepts for the Silkeborg Museum and get up to scratch with ideas originated and some textures.

250 Summary for My Game Plan

My plan would be examining the plans, sections, drawings and models of the Silkeborg Museum. I'm not basically going to take all of the drawings,plans etc. and model the whole museum but I'll be examine the vision for Jorn Utzon's design by trying the research in libraries for useful books on Jorn Utzon and possibly books on the Silkeborg Museum. What I'll also be doing, is examining the Ajanta and Ellora cave designs and some design elements from the Guggenheim Bilbao so that I can take on board the redesign of the Silkeborg Museum. Overall my game plan would be similar to what I'll be doing in the second assignment in History and Theory with Associate Professor Harry Margalit, where we examine the whole building using Sketchup. However, I'll be doing this in a different way by creating renders, perspectives, axonometrics, plans, sections and elevations. What I'll also be doing which I hope to do is create an animated walkthrough of the Silkeborg Museum to give an impression on how people feel when they explore the building. I hope to find some people to work with for research matters, however I seem to have some difficulties with finding people to work in a group for research. So I may spend some of my time doing independent research. I'll also 

research some of the information from Assignment Two of this course on the design of the curved shells, never-realized corridors and other geometrical design elements from the Sydney Opera House. This would require me to put a lot of work in this assignment to make the building more realistic. 

Useful show about Jorn Utzon's architectural career

In relation to third assignment on Jorn Utzon's unbuilt project, Silkeborg Museum, the Sydney Opera House would be having it's 35th Anniversary this month. 

On 8:30, Sunday October 19th, would be a show called Man Made Marvels which will highlight the construction of the Sydney Opera House on Discovery Channel (if anyone has FOXTEL).

Man Made Marvels is a TV series on Discovery Channel which explores the challenges in design and construction on significant and well known architectural landmarks. 

If you have FOXTEL on TV, I strongly recommend you to watch this show to learn more about Jorn Utzon's life as an architect and to find out and learn some of the design features in relation to his unbuilt Silkeborg Museum.
